It all went up and now it all came down!

We're ready to ride out today for the first time ever in Vancouver!
And very excited about all our lovely rolls of art waiting patiently to find a new home. And also about the beautiful weather unfolding out there right now!

A note to everyone who was in the right place at the right time today:

If you saw us on our not-secret-much-longer-route today and took snaps of us happily distributing art and making some enthusiastic noise, send us your pic or upload it to facebook - let us know about your Papergirl experience!

And we’d love to hear from you and hear what you ended up doing with the fabulous piece of work you've been gifted - so make sure to tweet us, facebook us or email us an update! And hey why not take a picture of you and your new art and post it to our Facebook wall!

If you'd like to find out more about the artist that created your gift, just check out the link list on the blog (on the left) or write to us, and we can let you in on how to contact them. We know the artists are very curious to know where their art ends up! ;)

See you later today!

Thank you Vancouver!

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
-Margaret Mead

I was walking down Main by Foundation Restaurant (please try their nachos if you haven't before, they are amazing!) and saw this quote painted on the side of their building. It really made me think about Vancouver Papergirl and how this small group of dedicated volunteers and generous artists made a change in the world. They made art more accessible and gave anyone who submitted art a chance to voice themselves. What a beautiful thing.

Vancouver Papergirl has some serious thanks yous to send out!

First off we want to thank Tim Gerwing for volunteering his amazing musical skills at our party, I know I enjoyed it! Also, just to let you folks know, he has released a brand new album this week called "Masked and Dreaming" for details see his website

We also want to thank the lovely and beautiful Ann Thomas from A Free Space for the art installation she provided for our party. Please check out their website they are doing amazing things and looking for a Board of Directors very soon!

We also want to thank Ona Praderas Sanchez for the meet and make table she provided at our party, check her out her business Ladywave on her website and check out her graphic and web designs as well as illustrations. This is one talented lady!

Thanks also to Jen Clark for taking fabulous photos of our event. See this the work of this talented lady on her website.

And special thanks to Lelainia Lloyd for her inspiring words about being one of the participating artists and reminding us that giving is a gift!

And super special thanks to all the amazing volunteers who gave their time (read: blood, sweat and tears) to make this wonderful sharing experience possible!

Finally thanks to Michele and Fraser and the Roundhouse for making this whole show happen in Vancouver, you are the best facilitators ever! Thank you!

Here are a few of the photos from Jen Clark so that anyone who couldn't make it can see how much fun we had!

do you have an answer?

At tomorrow's opening party Ann invites you to participate in a project around one question:

"What is the value of art?
Stop by The Roundhouse this Tuesday, August 23rd at at 7:00pm, enjoy the art and music and let us know in person. If you can't make it please send us an e-mail (afreespace@hotmail.ca) because we are interested to hear what you have to say.
Until then see you in the Free Space."

So the dress-code for tomorrow is thinking-caps AND party pants!

We Called and You Answered! Awesome!

Alright well now you have totally bowled us over!! Do you remember that scene in the first Harry Potter movie where the letters from Hogwarts are just streaming into the Dudley's house from every which way? Well it has been sort of like that here at the Roundhouse. To break it down in numbers, we are at 508 pieces of art at the last count! WOW! You rock!

We couldn't be any happier or more in love with all you smashing folks who sent us in your fabulous work! Yay! The biggest thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we had this vision way back when and you brought it into live technicolour. We are all making the world a better place and words can't describe how lovely we think you are for making a dream come true. You are some very talented and generous people!

We here at Papergirl Vancouver are all about giving credit where credit is due, so you'll notice there are links on the left hand side of this blog for all the artists we have info for. let there be music!

We're very excited to have Tim Gerwing performing at our opening event August 23!

It's a real treat to have such a wonderfully creative Vancouver musician adding to the Papergirl experience with his broad range of musical styles and moods.
Take your time exploring:
listen on myspace and find out more about Tim's work online : many audio-gems to be found!

A personal favourite the June 2011 track no 21 Shaddupandshakeyerchakra

Batter Up!

Hello Again Lovlies! So we are getting even closer to the magical day, whoo! This blog post is a gentle reminder that we have a soft deadline of August 15th coming up...! Eeep! Just so you know, art can be submitted until Aug 26th, we can't guarantee a spot in the exhibit, but everything is welcome until then! So keep on sendin' in your amazing work!

So far we've received original art, prints, posters, photographs and even a felted pet rock (which we won't throw at anyone ;P) from all over the globe! So please see our flickr account to get some inspiration from Vancouver and around the world! You know you want to send us some of your old or new work and be a part of this amazing project!

Then come to the show at the Roundhouse to see all the wonderful submissions live in high definition! You know, all in person like! Meet some other creative types and have a blast! August 23rd is the opening party in the evening - submitting artists should come and bring friends, there's going to be a Vancouver musician DJing, an installation artist with her collaborative work to join, meet and make tables with local designers and such. Details to follow closer to the date. How can you not be exited about that?! I am doing a happy dance just thinking about it!

Finally, to give you a photo taste of some art we have received, feast your eyes:

Now go! Create! Re-engineer! Then send it on over!
