Fire Up Your Creativity!

At Papergirl, we're all about creativity! Spring has finally arrived here in Vancouver and we're just beginning to shake off our winter blahs. One great way to do that is to get a jump on making art to submit to Papergirl Vancouver-it's never too early to start!

Here are 5 easy ways to fire up your creativity:

1. Read: Every library in the world has an entire section dedicated to art. The more you read, the more your mind is opened to new ideas! Check out books on the famous artists and their work, research techniques for your chosen medium or delve into a biography about an artist you admire and see what makes them tick. There's a whole world of creativity sitting on a shelf near you, just waiting for you to discover it!

2. Take a class: If there's something you've always been meaning to explore, what are you waiting for? There are tons of classes being offered at your local art centres or craft and hobby stores. Craft and hobby stores also offer free demos, so be sure and take advantage of those! You can also find a wide range of interesting classes online. Taking a class is a great way to expand your horizons and meet new people.

3. Search for tutorials: Don't have the funds for a class right now? Search online for a tutorial-there's lots of free knowledge on the internet on people's blogs or on Youtube. Youtube tutorials are great because you can watch the whole tutorial first to see what's what and then do a "make along" where you gather your supplies and work on the project while watching the video.

4. Change it up: If you've been working in one medium for a long time, chances are you're comfortable with it. Try something completely different. If you're a writer, try photography. If you are a painter, try working with clay...step outside your comfort zone and see what happens! You don't have to be good at something to enjoy experimenting and experimenting=learning.

5. Host an art party: You know that saying "Two heads are better than one"? Well it's true! Invite a friend or two over for an afternoon of making things. It's fun to ask each person to demo something they know about and then try it or to have a show and tell about projects they've been working on. It's also a great opportunity to pool your resources-ask friends to bring their rubber stamps, punches or other crafting tools to share. Everyone will go home inspired and energized.
